I was first introduced to the high-frequency wand at my local facial spot (LeeLous in Miami Florida). My skin looked absolutely awful for the first time in my entire life (it was a combination of stress, lack of skincare, and ageing) and LUCKILY for me, I was introduced to the skin guru of Miami and owner of LEELOU salon Betsy.
During our monthly facials she would go deep into every pore, pimple and blackhead and extract. With so many extractions needed my face would be red and little feel bruised and this is where she used the high frequency wand. It would reduce swelling, redness, in addition to killing any bacteria under the skins surface (or in the newly open and extracted pores) and ensure it heals in the healthiest way possible.
Now, I use it to prevent breakouts, help with redness and inflammation, acne prevention and of course scarring and dark circles!
How does it work?
The High Frequency Wand is a popular skincare tool used to treat many skincare issues such as acne, enlarged pores, fine lines and wrinkles and puffy or dark under eyes.
The wand was invented in the 1800s by scientist Nikola Tesla who wanted to use high-frequency current for medical purposes such as treating bacterial infections. Today, it is widely used by skincare professionals for many treatment regimens, procedures and programs because of its many benefits and proven effectiveness on almost any skin issue.
All high-frequency wands use a glass
Benefits for your skin:
⇾ Safely kills acne-causing bacteria
⇾ Minimizes inflammation and redness
⇾ Reduces post-inflammatory hyper pigmentation (PIH)
⇾ Reduces acne and prevents future breakouts
⇾ Shrinks enlarged pores
⇾ Oxygenates the skin
⇾ Increases circulation
⇾ Helps with wrinkles and fine lines
During the high frequency treatment, enriched oxygen molecules are produced that create an anti-bacterial action and a “natural” thermal tissue warming. As you age, your skin naturally loses moisture and the desirable elastic material we call collagen. This leaves behind dead skin cells that can clog the pores, as well as increases the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
The wand helps blood vessels push away toxins while balancing your skins hydration and collagen levels and producing nutrients and hydrating volume. High frequency has proven to be effective on almost any skin issue from acne and burns, to waxing procedures and cold sores.
High frequency facials are considered to be a safe, gentle and therapeutic approach to skin rejuvenation, quickly healing and restoring your skin’s health.
But wait, there’s more!
You can also use your high-frequency wands to help with body scaring, body acne, cellulite and even hair growth!

‘High frequency improves the blood circulation in hairs which leads to the supply of sufficient quantity of nutrients to the hair. This helps in revitalizing the hairs. The frequent oscillation helps to improve the scalp health and the overall health of the hair and hair follicle gets enhanced.’
Benefits on hair & hair growth:
⇾ Revitalizes hair
⇾ Manage thinning hairs
⇾ New cell generation (Treatment helps to generate new cells and also exfoliates the older cells. This technique significantly improves cellular turnover).
⇾ Prevents dandruff and itchy scallop
⇾ Reduces hair fall
⇾ Improves hair growth
⇾ Mentally soothes
Downsides:
⇾Increased oil production
⇾ Hair can become dry after treatment
TIP: With any other skin products, less is more. You won’t see better results if you use it longer or more often. Keep your light therapy short and sweet for best results!
How to do it at home:
- Thoroughly wash and dry your face, and apply your serum (Never do it on a dry face!)
- Cut a small piece of gauze. Insert/clean the glass electrode
- Turn it on and test on your hand (you want to feel a zing from the wand but it’s not supposed to hurt so find a setting that works before for you)
- Turn up the dial on the wand until you feel a slight tingling sensation **higher settings doesn’t make it more effective, it will dry out your skin*
- Move the wand over the acne lesion in circular motions, working on each area for no more than three to five minutes OR You can also ‘spark’ the acne (this is what I do) by tapping the tip of the wand on the acne a few times, and then move in a circular motion again.
WARNING: DO NOT LEAVE THE WAND IN ONE AREA FOR MORE THEN 10 SECONDS- KEEP YOUR WAND IN MOTION OR SPARKING
- Turn it off, clean the glass and apply your moisturizer. I apply Aquaphor before and after.
Light therapy is a way to treat most imperfections on your face at ‘Spa Level’ but with affordable prices. Since its gentle on all skin conditions & was invented by the GOAT (Tesla duh) you have nothing to lose by trying it.
