Okay, lets talk the newest fad: Detox Water or Infused Water
I have always been an obsessive water drinker so the idea of throwing some fresh fruits in the mix while naturally getting an energy boost and help keep my belly flat (not to mention it gets me a pretty Instagram pic) seemed like a no brainer to me. However as I started to research new recipes I started to learn about the heath benefits of drinking my infused water.
Every health conscience celebrity I follow on the gram is constantly posting about the benefits of ‘drinking away the fat’ by incorporating certain fruits in your daily water intake. According to the experts, detox waters can help your body in many ways, but the benefits that caught MY eye include:
-reduce + sooth inflammation
-boost in energy
-boost your metabolism
-cleanse your liver
-gives you naturally beautiful skin
Essentially, drinking ‘infused drinks’ daily will help your body to fight toxins that could potentially develop into a serious health issue. All while getting your daily water intake.
Does it work?
This is the debate. While majority of health experts that highly recommend drinking infused water swear by it (and the benefits that come with it) scientists say there are no real benefits. Drinking water on its own helps flush your body of toxins. Others claim that the only benefit of drinking fruit infused water is getting the vitamins from the fruits without the calories.
Im not one to be deterred from trying something new based on a negative review from someone else so I decided to give it a try myself. I experimented for a month making a new recipe once a week. I have decided detox water is a MUST.
My skin looked amazing, I found myself drinking less coffee in the morning because I was excited to drink my detox water, I was EXTREMELY hydrated (obviously), my stomach did look flatter (could have been the constant bathroom breaks helping with that however) and overall I did see a energy boost and obviously my snapchat stories were EXTRA AF. So though I may not be a health expert; I would recommend infused water ESPECIALLY if you find yourself having difficultly drinking water daily as it is.
To make your own:
All you need to do is fill a pitcher with water and your ingredients of choice and let it sit for a few hours. I left all of mine in the fridge overnight – and I tried to cut my fruit small or squeezed it in. Also don’t forget to slap your mint!
