An Interview with:
The Brickell Scoop
So imagine you just moved to a new city, don’t know anyone and are looking for a way to meet cool new people – preferably with a job. You need to check out The Brickell Scoop.
If you have never heard about the Brickell Scoop it is a different take on networking events and community service. As founder Elliot Machado explains ‘the whole concept is ‘to create a sense of community by knowing your neighbors name, by connecting organically with our business and by giving you an inside look of what the lifestyle of Brickell really is’.
The Scoop social hours takes place every few weeks at multiple locations in Brickell Miami (follow them on Facebook to find out when the next event is taking place). Its hosted by three realtors from ONE Sothebys International Realty –
(Click to learn more about each of these amazingly awesome people!)
Together these three offer a unique way to meet your neighbors, or possible new business partners while providing a new and different trendy location for every event that you may not have otherwise known about, a wide mix of local – not to mention the first drink is always on them… what more could you ask for in a new friend?
Tell us more about Brickell, What has changed in the neighborhood?
Brickell is filled with young professionals, restaurants fit for the ultimate foodie, classy nightlife and in our opinion, the best residential buildings in Miami. Unlike most of the city, it is extremely walkable and we also have easy access to the people mover and metro mover. Even tech companies like Uber, Facebook and Expedia chose Brickell for their Florida offices.
Brickell used to be known as Miami’s “financial center” since it houses countless international banks, but it has recently transformed into this vibrant “live, work, play” neighborhood housing new and diverse shops, bars, gyms, and everything a young professional could possible want at their fingertips. The people who live here, don’t have to leave for anything, and usually don’t want to either.
How did the idea for the Brickell Scoop come about?
Elliot felt like a sense of community was missing in Brickell. All these buildings were being built and all these new businesses were popping up — but Brickell was missing that neighborhood feel. We like to think we help with that. Our goal is to create relationships that are beneficial for everyone. We all help each other out. Also most people hear about Brickell, but they really don’t know much about it. We try to educate Miami on what’s really going on here. There’s a lot of misconceptions, such as “there’s too much traffic” or “it’s too congested,” which is really not the case. Like any other neighborhood, there are tricks to get around and in comparison to South Beach, we are an easy to navigate.
How did you three meet and start working together?
We all met through working in real estate. The three of us are hard workers, creative and innovative, making it the perfect collaboration. We also have a UM marketing intern for the summer — Alyssa, who is a digital wizard!
What can people expect when they attend a Scoop Event?
We like to call it ‘no business card networking.’ No forced relationships, just an organic way to meet neighbors and try out new spots in Brickell and downtown Miami. Nothing uptight! We draw crowds of 100+ people and usually the venue will even pass out their signature bites.
What do you offer your clients to make their renting/ buying experience better?
We know everything about Brickell. We know what buildings are best for roommates, what buildings have fast/ slow elevators, what buildings allow short term rentals, what buildings have the friendliest front desk concierge… We can definitely pinpoint exactly what you want in a new home or investment property. We also give out a #WelcomePackage to each customer that rents or buys in Brickell. This includes all sorts of goodies from our community sponsors, such as bottomless brunch for 2 at American Social , a blow out at Blo Blow Dry Bar, and a few introductory sessions at Myo Cortex.
Tell us about some secret places in Brickell that most people don’t know about?
The Tea Room or Bar Saam for a cocktail, Domain for coffee, CKO boxing for a good workout, Cassa Brickell for boutique style living… gosh there’s so many hidden gems.
When and where is the next Brickell Scoop event?
The next event is probably going to be July 26th at Arketekt ( Click here for more Info) — super cool little place that JUST opened up offering small plates and local inspired craft cocktails.
How can I get your team to help me find my dream home?
Easy — just give one of us a call!
Are you restricted to only Brickell?
Of course not. It’s our favorite but we realize that it’s not for everyone. We do a lot of business in Edgewater /Midtown / Wynnwood, the Grove, Gables and South Beach as well.
